Operational Postures

All University of Pittsburgh campuses are sheltering in place.

The scope of our dashboard and these updates is limited to people who have been on a Pitt campus within the last 14 days.

Unpacking the data

Cases on the regional campuses remain low and stable. Close contact testing at Pitt-Bradford this week, following reports of large gatherings, resulted in one positive but more than 10 students in quarantine.

Case counts on the Pittsburgh campus continue to decrease.  Allegheny County, however, continues to report high numbers of COVID-19 cases—and in increasingly younger patients, now that 80% of those over 65 have been vaccinated.

Despite the decreasing cases on campus, do not let down your guard or your mask. Maintain good hand hygiene at least six feet of distance between yourself and others.

Coming soon: Vaccine clinic is moving

Starting next week and throughout the summer, vaccination efforts at Pitt will move from the Petersen Events Center to the former AT&T storefront on Fifth Avenue in Nordenberg Hall. Statewide efforts are shifting from mass vaccination sites to smaller, community-based locations. We anticipate being able to continue to serve the community throughout the summer by providing vaccines to about 100 people per week through allotments from the Federal Pharmacy Program. We may continue to receive additional allotments from the state.

The PA Department of Health encourages university students to get vaccinated before traveling home—even if you won’t be able to return to the same location for your second dose. Many clinics are offering second dose appointments even if you received the first dose at a different clinic. We expect these offerings to expand in the coming weeks. Be sure to have your CDC card available when you schedule your second dose. It will be needed in order to schedule and verify the appropriate vaccine and timeframe to receive your dose.

We understand some students are waiting to get their vaccine because they do not want to experience side effects during finals week. Make a plan for your first dose as soon as your finals end.

Updated travel guidance

The Safe Mobility Standards and Guidelines were updated this week to make clear that University members should follow CDC guidelines for travel

End-of-term testing for seniors and all students

If you are symptomatic, please contact Student Health Service to schedule a test.

If you are not experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, you may schedule a test at the Posvar site by setting up a Quest account and scheduling through PittSwab. Testing is available Monday through Friday this week and next. You may also order a test through Quest to be taken at home. Please come for testing if invited.

Stay well and stay safe. Best of luck to everyone on finals!

Sincerely,

COVID-19 Medical Response Office
